Shannon Carmean Burton is a Delaware licensed attorney and Vice-President of the law firm Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, P.A. Shannon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ursinus College in 1999 and her Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law in 2003. After graduating from law school in 2003, Shannon served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable E. Scott Bradley at the Superior Court of the State of Delaware, in and for Sussex County. In 2004, Shannon entered into private practice and later formed Sergovic & Carmean, P.A. with John A. Sergovic, Jr. in 2007. The firm, now known as Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, P.A., has expanded in size and practice areas over the years and remains committed to Sussex County and the greater Delaware community through its involvement in and support of business and charitable organizations in the local community. Shannon’s practice primarily focuses on residential and commercial real estate transactions and land use matters. Shannon was recognized in the November 2010 issue of Delaware Today as one of Delaware’s Top Lawyers and was accepted to the Martindale-Hubbell Directory of Distinguished Attorneys in 2011. In addition, Shannon was recognized by Coastal Style Magazine Best of Awards as Sussex County’s Best Attorney for 2017-2022 and by The Metropolitan Magazine as Southern Delaware’s Best Attorney in 2021. Shannon also received the State of Delaware Office of the Child Advocate Service to Children Award honoring 10 years of commitment to Delaware’s Children 2007-2017. Shannon has been a member of the Delaware Bar since 2003 and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America in 2011. Shannon is a member of the Sussex County Bar Association, the Delaware Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Terry-Carey American Inn of Court and is an affiliate member of the Sussex County Women’s Council of Realtors and the Sussex County Association of Realtors. Shannon served as the Secretary of the Terry-Carey American Inn of Court from 2007-2018. Shannon also served as attorney guardian ad litem for children in foster care through the Office of the Child Advocate until 2021 and has received certification as an Educational Surrogate Parent. Shannon currently serves on the Board of Ambassadors for the Beebe Medical Foundation and is a 1916 Member. In addition, Shannon currently serves on the Board of Directors for Provident State Bank. Born and raised in Cape May County, New Jersey, Shannon currently lives in Millsboro, Delaware with her husband, Jeff Burton, step-sons and mother. In her free time, Shannon enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her dogs, traveling, boating and participating in outdoor activities.
