Shannon R. Owens, Esquire

Shannon R. Owens, Esquire has been a member of the Delaware Bar since 2003. Shannon obtained her Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware and attended the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, South Carolina as a visiting law student from 2002-2003. Shannon received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and was a member of the University’s Honors Program. In 2011, she was admitted as an attorney and counselor before the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to entering private practice, Shannon served as a judicial law clerk to all three Sussex County Family Court judges, the Honorable Kenneth M. Millman; the Honorable Peter B. Jones; and the Honorable John E. Henriksen. Shannon primarily focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning (including the preparation of wills, trusts, and powers of attorney), estate and trust administration, elder law (including guardianships and Medicaid matters), and real estate. Shannon is a member of the Terry-Carey American Inn of Court, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, ElderCounsel, WealthCounsel, the Southern Delaware Estate Planning Council, and the Delaware and Sussex County Bar Associations. Shannon is proud to have served on multiple committees for Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, which is named after her late father, Jack F. Owens. Shannon is a former Board Member and Vice President of Next Gen South, a non-profit organization created by and directed by local professionals dedicated to raising funds for causes affecting residents of Kent and Sussex Counties. Shannon is a frequent lecturer on various estate planning and elder law matters and teaches an estate planning course for the Delaware Tech Continuing Education Program. Previously, Shannon served as an adjunct professor for the education law course for Wilmington University’s doctoral program. Based upon the votes of her peers, she was named as a Top Delaware Lawyer by Delaware Today magazine five times. She lives in her hometown, Georgetown, Delaware.
